franchisement
Both the article and the lecturer discuss the franchise businesses. Although in overall the author favours the franchise ownership process, the professor criticises it.
Firstly, according to the written passage, finding reliable suppliers are very easy for business owners since the company readily guides them in terms of goods and services to be able to build up the store. However, on the other hand, the professor from the listening passage mentions that this guidance is generally over-priced. Due to the fact that the owner cannot purchase anything than the suggested ones by the parent company even though these available goods are less costly than the recommended ones in the market.
Secondly, the author mentions that since the parent company creates the advertisements for the business, the store owner can save up an important amount of money. On the contrary, the lecturer argues this statement by mentioning, advertisements are taken up the 60% of the total in sales, so the business owner has to give this percentage from the profit to the partner company to make the ads. Moreover, she continues by saying even though this is the case, the parent company never creates an advertisement which uses the features of that local business and their own products. It is always a general one where the brand only introduces its own name.
Lastly, the written passage mentions that security is one of the biggest positive outcomes of having a franchise company since the failure rate is quite low and launching an individual business is much riskier while the listening passage criticises by giving an example recent research about taking owner an already existed business is doubling the change of success than franchisement.
