The chart below shows the total number of Olympic medals won by twelve different countries.

The bar chart compares 12 countries in terms of how many medals they had won at the Olympic Games.

It is noticeable that the USA by far had the highest number of medals in total, with the amount over twice as much as that for the country ranked second. Except that, the difference of medals won by other countries was not obvious.

The USA had won over 2250 medals overall at the Olympic Games, with approximately 900 gold medals, 750 silver and 650 bronze. The Soviet Union, winning less than half of Americans medals (1000 medals), ranked in the second place. Similar to the proportion for America, the number of gold medals was higher than silver and bronze for this country.

The UK was in third place and had earned about 750 medals. With the exception of France, Germany and Italy, the total number of medals for other countries were under 500. Interestingly, we can see there was a comparingly higher proportion of gold medals for China, with 200 gold medals out of 400 overall.
