The graph depicts how water is used all over the world in last century in three primary sectors, namely agriculture, industry and domestic usage and the table delineates the information on water consumption by Brazil and Congo in 2000.
Overall, while usage of water had increased manifold over the period in all three sectors, farming experienced the highest growth in last century. Also, in the year 2000, water consumption per person in two countries were directly proportionate to the population and available irrigation land in that particular country.
In 1900, water used for agricultural activities was approximately 500 cubic kilometre, whereas other two activities saw quite insignificant usage. Over the period, farming experienced substantial growth and it rose to about 3000 cubic kilometre in 2006. In contrast, industrial and household usage of water showed extremely diminutive increment till 1950, after that there was a slight rise in industrial usage whereas, previous trend continued for domestic usage of water till 1970. But their combined water usage was always much less than water used for agricultural activities.
Brazil being a country with 176 million people saw water consumption per person at 359 cubic metre, which was much higher than that of Congo, only 8 cubic metre. The data corroborated that water consumption per person is directly related to the population and area of irrigation land.
