franchise, starting business, benefit
The text and lecture both discussed about the starting business and whether the franchise is better than starting your own business. In the lecture, speaker disagrees with all the points stated in the reading regarding the benefit of franchise over starting new benefit and suggests a new option for starter which was not pointed out in the reading, buying an independent business from a business owner.
First, the lecturer refutes the benefit of franchise in terms of access to reliable suppliers for goods and services. She points out to the study that assessed this issue and called this idea into question. In fact, business owner in franchise are forced to buy goods and services from specific suppliers which are usually overpriced and not allowed to buy goods from other suppliers with the same quality but lower price. Therefore, they would pay more for buying their goods and services.
Also, in the text not paying for advertisement was one benefit of having franchise. However, the lecturer illustrates that the owner of franchinse should pay 60% of their sum total in sale for advertisement to the primary company which is huge amount of money. On the other hand the advertisement is not advertising their own business and is company's product. Therefore, indivitual franchise owner would have very little benefit from their work.
Lastly, the more sequirity explained by text is not working. Although the failure rate of franchise in comparison to starting the new business provides less failure rate and might seem more sequire, there ia a third option that provides the best sequirity and lower failure rate that reading did not explained. Buying an independent business from business owner is the more sequire option that leads to better outcome.
