The information below gives details about household income and spending on food and clothes by an average family in a UK city in 2010 and 2013.
The table shows figures about the total amount of household revenue as well as the average expenditure of nutrition and clothing in a UK family unit between 2010 and 2013. Meanwhile, the pie charts illustrate the percentages of financial allocation for various kinds of basic needs.
As can be seen from the table, the year 2010 reported 29000 pounds of total income, while an average UK family spent around 14000 pounds on food and clothing. In 2013, the household revenue witnessed a noticeable drop of 4000 pounds (25000 pounds). Surprisingly, the average spending on food and clothing rose to 15000 pounds.
In terms of the data in the pie charts, it is easily pointed out that an average UK family unit in 2010 spent the most on meat and fish (25%). This is followed by the fact that fruits and vegetables and clothes shared the same significance (20% and 22%). Concurrently, the spending on alternative food and drinks was also noticeably considered (18%), while dairy products provided the least significance to family units across the UK.
However, the year 2013 marked a major change in families’ expenditures. To be more specific, the spending on fruits and vegetables dramatically rose to 35%, which made it the most dominant. Moreover, both clothes and meat and fish noticed a significant drop of 10% (22% to 12% and 25% to 15% respectively). Surprisingly, UK families still allocated 18% of their income for other food and drinks. Finally, the spending on dairy products increased by 5% (20%).
A glance at the table and charts reveals that the period between 2010 and 2013 witnessed a noticeable elevation in basic needs’ spending along with a substantial rise demands for fruits and vegetables.
