Tidal power
The passage here states the importance of the tidal power. It describes how the tidal power helps in the generation of electricity. The lecture however points out the drawbacks of using the tidal power. It explains how it is more harmful to use the tidal power and undermines the advantages mentioned in the passage.
First, the lecture tells us that the tidal power only provides a fraction of our energy requirements, whereas the negetive effects of harnessing this energy are many. It is difficult to find the proper locations to coonstruct the dams in the first place and even if the proper place is found it only benefits the regional population which is very less.
Second, the lecture tells us that due to this tidal power the quality of water in the river is detoriates which in turn effects the wildlife in those area. This also leads to habitat destruction in many areas. Fishes which migrate between river and sea also gets affected as there ability to migrate gets hampered.
Lastly, the lecture also tells us how the economy of the place also gets affected due to these tidal plants. It provides example of fishing boats to illustrate the same. It tells us that the ability of fishing boats to navigate gets disturbed thus leading to loss of
incomes to the fishermen of those area.
Thus, the lecture clearly highlights the limitations of using the tidal energy which is suggested in the passage by showing us how it disrupts the wildlife as well as the human life of those areas.
