The first chart illustrates the energy consumption of Australian household appliances and the second one presents how greenhouse gas emissions are emitted from each way of using energy.
Overall, heating, in general, consumes the largest percentage of energy utilization and water heating is obviously the main driver of greenhouse gas emissions as well.
The statistics in the first chart shows that heating and water heating account for 42 % and 30% of the total energy usage respectively. The remainder of the energy is primarily used for other implements at 15 percent, and refrigeration, at 7%. The energy consumption of lightning and cooling is quite insignificant, adding up to only 6 percent of the total use.
In the second pie chart, water heating, however, is also responsible for a fairly high proportion of the amount of greenhouse gas emission, comprising 32% of the total amount. Other appliances are also the major factor that causes emissions, which stands at 28 percent. Surprisingly, the number of gas emissions that hail from heating only account for 15% overall, and 14% for refrigeration, almost doubling compared to the percentages of them in energy use. Meanwhile, 3% of emissions are caused by cooling and 8% of those are produced by lightning which still is the lowest percentage.
