The charts illustrate the comparison of four retail sectors in Canada in term of the percentage of internet sales in two years, 2005 and 2010.
Overall, it is clear that there was a significant change in the proportion of online sales for each sector during 2005 and 2010. The figures for food and beverage and video games increased considerably, whereas this number in the other sections decreased.
In 2010, the percentage of online sales of food and beverage rose by 10 percent from 2005 figure of 22%. Besides, video games also saw a growth in the figure for internet sales. While this proportion was 18% in 2005, then it went up to 23% after a 10-year period.
By contrast, the most dramatic decline in the amount of online sales of home furnishings when it fell from 25% down to 15%, in 2005 and 2010 respectively. And there was a drop in that of electronics and appliance that witnessed a fall from 35% in 2005 to 30% in 2010.
