The charts below illustrate different sources of electricity in Australia and France in two years, 1980 and 2000.
Overall, the production of electricity in both nations saw some increases, with Australia producing an extra 70 units, while that figure for France exactly doubled.
First, in 1980, coal was the main source to create electricity in Australia, taking up half of the whole production. Followed by that was hydro power and natural gas both of which accounted for 20 units. Oil was least used in this nation, however, as only one tenth of electricity production derived from this fuel source. Looking into France, coal, natural gas and oil were the three major sources respectively in the production while nuclear power, which didn't exist in Australia at that time, became the fuel for 15 percent of electricity.
Turning to 2000, coal was the largest fuel source as they accounted for 130 out of 170 units. Another type of fuel used was hydro power, and natural gas and oil only took up a very small percentage in the total electricity production. Meanwhile, in France, nuclear power already rose to become the major source. 25 units of electricity were produced from coal and oil and natural gas, along with hydro power, made up a little percentage.
