The pie charts below show the main reasons why students chose to study at a particular UK university in 1987 and 2007.
The given pie charts illustrate the information regarding 5 major factors which made students enroll at one UK university in the 2 years 1987 and 2007.
Overall, while the majority of students considered suitable degree courses important, a difference after 20 years was the tendency among them to want to be close to their parents.
According to the charts, 35% of the students studied at the university due to suitable degree courses in 1987, which was higher than the percentage of those who went to the university because of quality resources and sports/social activities by 14% and 16%, respectively. Much lower than these figures, quality of teaching and being close to parents only accounted for 15% and 10% of the reasons in 1987.
By contrast, two decades later, the proportion of the students going to the university because of proximity to parents experienced a considerable rise to almost a quarter, whereas that of those who sought sports and social activities remarkably dropped to as low as 6%. In comparison to the 8% of students prioritizing the quality of teaching of the university, twice as many students chose the quality of resource in 2007.
