The table chart provides a comparison of consumer expenditure on three categories in Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey in 2002.
From an overall perspective, it is apparent that the proportion of consumer spending on food, drinks, tobacco was the highest in five nations. By contrast, residents in each country spend the lowest money on leisure and education.
As can be seen from the table, Turk people spent more money on food, drinks, and tobacco than any other four countries, at nearly one-third of their total expenses on consumer products. Ireland had the second largest percentage of this category at over 28% while Italy, Spain and Sweden spent only under 20% for food, drinks and tobacco.
The proportion of consumer expenditure for clothing and footwear in Italy was the highest at 9.00% while the figures for the other countries were lower at around 5.4 to roughly 6.5%. People in Turkey consumed the highest amount of money on education and leisure and the least amount was spent by Spanish at 4.35% and 1.98% respectively.
