The chart gives information about the number of passenger kilometers covered by distinct methods of transport in the UK between 1990 and 2000.
It is clear that bus and rail were more popular means of transportation in the UK compared to a bicycle, motorbikes, and air. Besides, the demand for using air, bus, rail and in total tended to rise over the period, while there was an opposite trend which could be seen in bicycle and motorbike.
In 1990, bicycles and motorbikes were not used much in the UK, at about 5 billion passenger kilometers, and the figure slightly declined to 4 billion over the next 10 years. By contrast, the number of passenger kilometers traveling by air stood at relatively low, with solely 5 billion in 1990, but it saw a steep growth in 2000, at about 8 billion.
In addition, there wasn’t a dramatic difference when looking at the number of passenger kilometers by bus and rail. More specifically, both means of transport accounted for 42 billion in 1990, more or less, before increasing to nearly 50 billion in 2000. Likewise, the figure for total also grew from 100 billion to 110 billion between 1990 and 2000.
