The main topic in reading passage and lecture about Agnostides which are a group of marine animals . These species extinicted befor many years ago and their fossils do no give a good information about them. The writer claims several theriories about how Agnostids may have lived. The lecturer casts doubt on claim made in article. She mentions, unfortunatly, each theriory present in passage have weakness.
First, the writer states, Agnostids were free-swimming predators, they can swim fast, because, there are examples of primitive arthropods living this way. This statement is challenged by professor. She cites, the primitive arthropods have a big eyes to see their pray and protect their eyes with barriers. But agnostids had a very small eyes and partialy blind. Therefore , they can not live in ocean.
Second, the author asserts, agnostids were seafloor dwellers. Because, there are many examoples of primitive arthropods living in sea and feed by grazing on bacteria. The lecturer n the other hand refutes this notion. She suggests, agnostids can seen in many different and distant area in ocean which are far a way from their orginal dewelling. This mean that agnostids can swim fast and for long distance. furthermore sea primitive speases can not move fastly or for long distance.
Finally, the author says, thses agnostids were parasits. The lecturer contradicts this notion. She elaborate on small size of parasits comparing to size of agnostids. moreover, parasits need small scavanger to parasit on it. But agnostids big size need larg species to parasit on it.
