Overall, it is clear that people in residential zones were the ones that use water the most, and they use it in their bathrooms and for gardening.
In 2004, i70% of all water use in Australia was in the residential sector, which includes 50% of those who live in a house and 20% used in apartments. Industrial use and businesses accounted for 11% and 10% of the overall water use. The government consisted of 6% of the total water consumption whereas other uses only made up half of the government's usage.
A large portion of the water that was used in residential areas was consumed in bathrooms and gardens, at 27% and 28% respectively. Doing the laundry was also a major water-consuming domestic activity, took up exactly one-fifth of the total water usage, after which toilets and kitchens consumed 15% and 10% of the total residential water.
