The graph shows the employment rates of men and women in the UK in 2008
The bar charts illustrate the proportion of employment rates of both genders by age group and by the age of their youngest child in the UK in 2008. Overall, what stands out from the graph is that employment rates of males almost surpassed that of females in both graphs, except for 16-17 and over 60 year-old groups by their age that bucked the trend.
In particular, when it comes to employment rates by age, the graph witnessed the highest numbers in 25-49 year-old group with about 90% for males, compared to approximately 75% for females, followed by 50-59 year-old group with roughly 70% for the former and over 60% for the latter. It was accompanied by age group 18-24 at around 70% and 68% for men and women respectively. In contrast, the figure of 16-17 and over 60 year-old women outnumbered that of men, which constantly accounted for the lowest numbers.
Meanwhile, regarding employment rates by their youngest child’s age, the number of people without children shared the equal percentage of over 75%. In terms of men having under 5 to 18 year-old children, the figures were at the same percentage of about 90%, which consecutively constituted the largest numbers. Concerning female employees, the percentage of age group 16-18 was at 80%, which was the highest score, followed by around 75% and 70% in age group 5-10 and 11-15 correspondingly. The smallest percentage was below 60%, which was represented by under 5 year-old group.
