The table shows data about the proportion of consumer expenditure on different items in five countries in 2002. Overall, the percentage of food, drinks and tobacco was the highest while that of leisure and education was the lowest among the three items in all given countries.
The proportions of money spent on food, drinks and tobacco in Turkey and Ireland were the highest, at 32.14% and 28.91% respectively. The figures for Italy, Spain and Sweden were the lowest and nearly equal, ranging from 15.77% to 18.80%.
Italy spent the most proportion of money on clothing and footwear, with 9%. whereas the bottom of the list was Sweden, with 5.4%. Meanwhile, those of Ireland, Spain, and Turkey were similar, at approximately 6%.
In terms of leisure and education, ranked in the first place was Turkey, with 4.35%. The proportions of consumer expenditure on that item in Spain and Ireland were the lowest, at roughly 2%. At the same time, the figures for Italy and Sweden were slightly higher and nearly the same, at around 3%.
