It is clear that there were significant changes in the production of CO2 per person by the UK, Sweden, Italy, Portugal shown on the graph. While the emissions of CO2 were steadily increasing in Italy and Portugal over the forty-year period, the CO2 emissions in the UK and Italy experienced a downward trend.
In 1967, the United Kingdom produced around 11 tonnes of emissions, while Italy and Portugal released approximately 1.3 tonnes and 4.2 tonnes of CO2 respectively. The production of CO2 in Sweden was nearly 9 tonnes and rose significantly to around 11 tonnes.
From 1967 to 2007, the average quantity of CO2 released in the UK decreased gradually to under 9 tonnes, while the figure for Sweden dramatically declined to roughly 5 tonnes at the end of the period. By contrast, Italy and Portugal CO2 emissions per person experienced a rapid urge and then remained steady to nearly 8 tonnes and around 5 tonnes respectively until 2007.
