The pie charts illustrate four main purposes on which youngsters in an African country use their phones over the course of 4 years starting in 2016.
Clearly, in all years the most significant reason was social networks, which accounted for about half the total, whereas phone calls generated the least amount. Over the 4-year period, there was an increase in social networks and digital camera, while email and phone calls were in decline.
Teenagers being on their phone for social networks comprised of 50% in 2016, after which this figure fell slightly to 48% the next year, then bounced back and finished the course at 56%. Likewise, in the first 2 years, digital camera constituted 15% which rose steadily to 20% in the last year.
Email, which made up 25% in the beginning, by contrast, experienced a gradual decrease to 19% in 2019. With regards to phone calls, this item climbed moderately from 10% in 2016 to 13% in 2017 before falling back to 11% the next year, followed by a sharp drop to 5% in 2019.
