A glance at the graph provided reveals some striking oppositions between the number of students enrolling in two languages’ courses: French and Mandarin at the age of 13, from 2000 up to now.
Overall, we can see that learners prefer studying French to Mandarin. The figure for French has fallen markedly, while Mandarin’s options increased noticeably during the period.
Looking at the information in more detail, the quantity of students choosing French to learn experienced a rapid downward trend, from nearly 150 students in 2000 to around 96 students in 2005. Conversely, the figure for Mandarin choice was about 8 juveniles in 2000, soaring to approximately 75 people in 2005.
In 2006, the number of students taking French courses rose by around 100 people, meanwhile, the figure was nearly 73 people when it comes to that of Mandarin.
