The charts below give information on the ages of people when they got married in one particular country in 1996 and 2008. Summarise the information and Write at least 150 words.
The charts illustrate how many people of different ages got married in a country in 1996 and 2008.
Overall, there was a slight decline in the percentage of men and women getting married under 30, while the converse trend was witnessed in those over 30. It is also important to note that women tended to marry at a younger age than men.
Regarding females, 1% of those aged 16 to 19 got married in 1996, but there were almost no women of this age wedding in 2008. Similarly, the figures for those falling in the 20-24 and 35-39 age groups decreased almost by half, from 6% to 3% and 4% to slightly over 2% respectively. By stark contrast, the share of women getting married from 30 to 34 increased slightly (from 7% to 8%), and the figures for 25-to-29-year-old and 40-to-44-year-old women remained unchanged.
In terms of males, it is clear that the percentage of those getting married at a later age all increased, with the figures for those aged 35 to 39 and 40 to 44 rising sharply (7% to 11% and 3% to nearly 6%), and that of those aged 30 to 34 growing moderately (9% to 11%). In addition, it is noticeable that the proportion of those from 20 to 24 remained unchanged, and there were no boys from 16 to 19 getting married in both years.
