The line graph compares statistics on the release of acid rain from four diverse sectors in the United Kingdom over a period of 17 years from 1990.
It is clear that the gross amount of acid rain emissions that came from all forms of category witnessed a drop throughout the given period. However, a dramatic decline was seen in the electricity, gas, and water supply.
In 1990, the figure for rain acid emissions caused by the electricity, gas, and water sector had the highest rate of emissions, at just under 3.5 million tonnes. However, this figure was 1.5 million tonnes higher than emissions from other industries. The transport and communication sector produced a rather similar amount of acid rain to the domestic one, at around 0.7 and 0.6 million tonnes respectively.
By 2007, acid rain emitted by electricity, gas, and water supply had been in a downturn by about 3 million tonnes. Whereas there was a moderate decrease of 1.5 million tonnes in the other industries sector, there were no significant changes in the release of acid rain from the transport and communication category. Besides, emissions from the domestic sector reduced steadily and hit a low of approximately 0.25 million tonnes between 2005 and 2007.
