The charts below give information on the ages of the populations of Yemen and Italy in 2000 and projections for 2050.
The pie charts illustrate changes in the population of Yemen and Italy, divided into three age groups from 2000 to 2050.
Overall, while the population of the 15-59 age group is predicted to experience an upward trend, the opposite will be true for Italy. It is also clear that both countries will show a decline in the youngest group and an increase in the oldest one.
In 2000, half of the population in Yemen was children aged 0 to 14, after which its figure is set to decrease by around 13% in 2050. Conversely, that of those at the age of 60 and over is likely to rise from 3.6% in 2000 to 5.7% fifty years later. Over the same period, there is projected to be a slight growth of roughly 10% in the percentage of people between 15 and 59, from 46.3% to 57.3%.
In comparison, Italian children aged 14 and younger accounted for 14.3% in 2000 compared to over 60% of the elderly. In the mid twenty first century, the forecast is that the figures for these two groups will witness a slight decline to 11.3% for the former and 46.2% for the latter. In contrast, it is anticipated that the proportion of 15-59-year-olds will increase almost double to reach 42.3% in the following five decades.
