The charts below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
The pie charts illustrate the rates of British students fluent in other languages aside from theor mother tongue at a specific university during the period from 2000 to 2010. Overall, the figure for all categories except French only, no other language, and German only experienced an upward trend. In addition, Spanish was the most common second language for all students surveyed.
The proportion of students knowing Spanish was the highest among all in the beginning, at 30% and remained at the top position after 10 years by the increase of 5% in its value. The figure for students speaking another foreign language and students speaking two other ones also rose at the same pace over the time, from 15% to 20% anf from 10% to 15% respectively.
By contrast, there was an opposite pattern seen in the figure for students using only English and those using only French. The rate of the former decreased by 10% to 10% compared the decline by 5% to 10% of the latter at the end of the survey.
Different from all, students speaking German accounted for the same 10% throughout 10 years.
