The chart illustrates how four means of transportation were used to commute to and from work in a particular European city from 1960 to 2000.
Overall, there was an increase in the percentage of people travelling by train and by car, whereas, the figures for tube and bus dropped during the research period in the surveyed nation. Additionally, the proportion of car commuters experienced the most dramatical alteration.
In 1960, the rate of bus users was highest, at nearly 40%, while the figure for train was significantly lower, at about 18%. Meanwhile, the percentage of citizens travelling by tube accounted for around 17%, compared to only more than 5% of the total people in the city examined used car to commute.
In 2000, the share of car travelers considerably increased to about 37% and became the highest figure in the graph. Similar changes, but with lesser extent, can be seen in the figure for train, which grew to over 20%. By contrast, the percentage of people using tube and bus decreased to 25% and 15% respectively.
