It is evident from the graph that, all the figures for developed countries are higher than those for developing nations. Overall, there was an increase in participation in education and science from 1980 to 1990 for both countries.
People in developing nations attended school for an average of around 3 years in 1980, with a slight increase to nearly 4 years in 1990. In contrast, the average years of schooling for developed nations showed a significant increase from about 9 years to nearly 11 years from 1980 to 1990.
For ten consecutive years, from 1980 to 1990, developed countries spent more money on research and development than those of developing countries; the amount of money spent on research and development in developed countries saw rapid growth, reaching $350 billion in 1990 and the number of scientists and technicians doubled the number to about 70 per 1000. By contrast, the number of science workers in developing countries remained below 20 per 1000 people while the amount of money spent on research and development fell from about $50 billion to half of those ($25 billion).
