Suppression of forest fire - integrated essay
The reading and the lecture are both about how many people prefer to consume entertaining contexts like tv
shows
or music rather than reading a book. The author of the article argues that less reading can impair people’s intellectual settlement for several reasons. The lecturer disputes the claims mentioned in the article. Her position is that reading fewer books cannot associate with cultural accumulation. Besides, people persist in learning new things with music or art.
According to the reading, literature is firmly dependent on intellectual stimulation. The article mentions that literature cultivates the encouragement to learn new information about peoples’ social skills which include empathizing, expanding their understanding, etc. this argument is challenged by the lecturer. she claims that although literature is an exclusive way to expand people’s knowledge, it cannot solely represent lower cultural standards. Additionally, people can reach plenty of different materials to change their environment positively. therefore, the lecturer suggests that people can watch high-qualified tv
shows
, movies, or music.
Secondly, the author points out that there is one more problem. people have switched their reading habits from quality books to poorly written books. Moreover, the article notes that fast-consuming contexts, like tv or web page videos, are wasting people’s time. The lecturer, however, asserts that having less time the literature does not mean wasting time. there are also lots of scientific or political contexts to develop people understanding.
Finally, the author puts forth the idea that the more good-written books, the more enthusiasm to reading a book. The author contends that writing a good novel, reading a book, and investing in the new book is a kind of loop. If the authors write good books, the audiences will be more willing to read a book. therefore that circle will continue to invest in new masterpieces. In contrast, the lecturer’s stance is that this process cannot depend on just the audience, it also depends on the authors’ writing skills. she says that previous generations’ authors had more skills about write a book. however, new authors should take responsibility to write a good quality book.
