Essay topics:

Wilderness management has advanced
greatly over the last century, due in part
to such practices as the suppression of
forest fires and limitations on the clearcutting of trees. Monitoring forests
for small brushfires is easier with
aircraft, as is the use of large amounts
of water and sophisticated chemical
fire extinguishers to prevent fires from
spreading.
The goals of decreasing the amount
of destruction by fires and cutting
are wide-ranging. One is simply the
longer lives and improved health of
trees. In some areas of hickory and
oak forest on the Eastern Seaboard,
fire suppression has allowed the
maturation of so many trees that the
treetops form
a continuous canopy.
There is evidence of the healthful
effects of fire suppression closer to
the ground as well. Vines and low
bushes that would be burned out in
a
forest fire can flourish when fires are
suppressed, of course, but there is a more indirect way fires harm plant
life. Chemical tests on areas that
have recently experienced forest fires
demonstrate that burning decreases
the overall amount of nutrients in the
soil. Suppressing fires prevents such a decrease. Ferns, wildflowers, and
herbs grow without disturbance.
Finally, wildlife can benefit. In the
eastern hickory and oak forests, the
suppression of fires has meant that
forest animals
—ranging from small
insects and birds to large deer and,
bears
—are not burned to death.
Deer populations, in particular, have
increased notably.

The reading text ad lecture are both about the suppression of forest fires. The author of this text feels that, because of this forest grows with its full potential. The lecture disputes all these claims made by the author. She says that, forest fire is beneficial for the forest.

First of all, according to reading text lower down the rate of fire is allow the tree to be mature. In contrast the lecturer stance that, this mature tree is making the thick canopy over the forest land. She also stats that, it will not allow the light to penetrate across the canopy. It will harm the young growing plant in the forest reducing it photosynthesis.

Secondly, The reading text suggests that, limitation over the fire is allow the bushes and herbs to grow at their full potential. On the other hand, the lecturer posits that, unlimited growth of the bushes leads to the total covering of the land area. Additionally, She poins out that, it will causes a competition between the young plant and this bushes.

Finally, The reading passage mention that, as a result, of reduction in forest fire incidences, the population of wildlife animal is increasing. However, the lecturer goes to says that, this animal is mainly dependes on the young growing tree for their food. So, it will destruct the young plant by feed on it.

Moreover, she says that, decreasing in the forest fire is also reduce the quantity of nutrients in the soil.

Put it in a nutshell, the reading text and lecture are both about the pros and cons of the forest fire although, the lecturer is effectively challenge the all the main points made by the author in the reading text.
