The table below shows the percentages of the population by age groups in one town who rode bicycles in 2011.
The table demonstrates the proportion of inhabitants who rode cycle, by age range and gender in 2011.
Overall, children under 9 years old accounted for the highest percentage of cyclists. Also, the percentage of females who use bicycles was higher than that of males in all age groups.
It can generally be seen that an inhabitant’s age increases, they tend to bicycle less. The percentage of people who rode bicycles reached a peak at the age group of children under 9 years old, with 51.4% of females compared to 50.3% of males. Following by the age range of 10 to 17 years old, the data of women and men cyclists were 42.2% and 24.6%, respectively.
It is noticeable that the figure for female cyclists at the age groups of 18-39 years old which stood at 17.1 percent, was larger than 9.7 percent of males. 12,3 percent of women using cycles which was a little higher than the percentage of men which was 8.0 percent between 40 to 59 years old. However, these figures rose slightly to 18.5% in the case of females and 13.2% in case of males.
