The chart illustrates shifts in the number of tonnes of CO2 released per capita in four nations: the UK, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal between 1967 and 2007.
Overall, it is apparent that while the British and the Swedish tend to emit less and less co2, the opposite trend was true in the rest. In addition, the number of emissions in the United Kingdom dominated throughout the period.
Moving to a more detailed analysis, the year 1967 was seen nearly 11 tonnes Co2 per person in the UK, followed by Sweden, at 9 tonnes. The figure for tonnes per capita in Italy and Portugal was 4 tonnes and more than 1 ton respectively. Afterward, there was a continuous decrease in the UK and stood at around 9 tonnes per person in 2007.
The tonnes in Sweden increased sharply to 10 tonnes in 1977 but later declined enormously by 4 tonnes in 2007. There was a dramatic jump in Italy, from 4 tonnes to approximately 8 tonnes in 2007, surpassing Sweden at the end of the year 1987. Like the Swedish, the Portuguese produced the same tonnes of Co2 in 2007.
