Percentage of households with electrical appliances (1920-2019)
The given charts show the changes in ownership of electrical equipment and the number of hours taken doing housework in families in a country from 1920 to 2019.
It is clear that the percentage of households with electrical devices increased and the amount of time for doing housework decreased.
In 1920, the percentage of households that own washing machines, vacuum cleaners, and refrigerators is 40%, 30%, and 0%, respectively. These figures rose dramatically to 70%, 70%, and 90% in 1960. On the contrary, there was a sharp drop of 30 hours (from 50 hours per week to 20 hours per week) in the amount of time spent doing housework per week in families.
In the next period from the year 1960 to the year 2019, the proportion of households using electrical appliances continued to grow moderately, especially the figures for vacuum cleaners, and refrigerators reached to 100%. In the same trend as the period from 1920 to 1960, the number of hours doing housework per week went down slightly with a reduction of 10 hours.
