The article states that , many employees in United states are inclined to work four days a week with four-fifths of their normal pay instead of five-day workweek. Moreover , due to the reading , by this approach the economy would benefit as well as individual companies and employees. However , the professor believes just opposite of that and explains that it won't have any benefits neither for economy nor for companies and workers.
First the reading claims that , by shortening work days employees would feel more rested and they would make fewer errors in their work so the company would increase it's profits and since four-day employees would be paid 80 percent of the normal rate , it can hire more staff. The professor refuses this point by saying that , conversly companies would need to spand more money by adding new workers. He adds , hiring more staff would raise companies expenses on training new employees and their medical costs and also more space and computers would be needed for the new staff.
Second the article posits that , country as awhole would benefit of offering this option cause it can decrease unemployment rates. However the professor says that , this avenue would raise expectation and workers will be expected to do the same amount of work which was being done in 5 days once so it will cause the work to be more unpleasant.
Third the passage claims that , employees would improve the quality of their lives by allocating more free times to their families and having more time fore their personal interests. The professor opposes this point by explaining that , there are some risks related to this approach. He believes that reducing work days to four will reduce the quality of workers life. There will be low chances of advances and getting promote in jobs and four-day workweek employees would be more likely to lose their job in an economic downturn.
