The bar chart illustrates the amount of money spent on clothes yearly per person in the US over a 20-year period starting from 1985.
Overall, all the categories experienced an increase over the period. In addition, the figures for women’s clothes and men’s clothes were far higher than those for boy’s clothes and girls’ clothes.
Regarding the clothes for boys and men, the annual average spending on boy’s clothes registered under $100 in 1985. After that, this figure increased minimally to nearly $100 ten years later and then remained stable in 2005. Meanwhile, each person in the US paid out roughly $300 in 1985 before surging to over $400 in 1995. Subsequently, this figure witnessed a minimal drop to exactly $400 at the end of the period.
When it comes to the clothes for girls and women, there was a growth in expenditure on girls’clothes from nearly $100 at the beginning of the period to about $120 in 1995 before continuing to grow to over $150 in 1995. Similarly, the figure for women’s clothes surged from approximately $500 to about $650 in 1995.
