Rapid population growth in cities has brought with it many problems. What are these problems? How can the quality of life of city residents be maintained?
Population growth has become one of the most worrying problems in the contemporary world due to the detrimental effects it has on humans and nature. This essay will shed light on the downsides of this phenomenon and put forward some possible solutions to deal with it.
Admittedly, the increasing population presents a number of issues. First, when the global population rises rapidly, there will be higher demands for accommodation. Meanwhile, land resource on earth is becoming scarce, leading to increasing house prices. As a result, many people face difficulties in looking for a place to live. Second, owing to overpopulation, the number of private vehicles also increased. This also means that a huge amount of carbon footprint will be disposed into the environment. This may potentially have adverse impacts on not only human health but also wildlife. Moreover, population explosions may result in fierce competition for job opportunities, giving rise to unemployment rates.
To alleviate the problem, actions should be taken. One possible solution is for governments to invest in urban planning schemes such as constructing more residential blocks. This may hopefully deal with house shortage and homelessness. Another practical approach is to develop and upgrade transportation systems such as railways, subways, and buses. Not only does it encourage people to use more public transport but also reduces pollution. Additionally, people’s awareness about safe sex practices should be raised while at the same time, local authorities need to encourage their residents to apply birth control methods. These may potentially prevent unplanned pregnancies and therefore reduce birth rates.
All things considered, overpopulation causes various social issues regarding lack of accommodation, pollution, and unemployment. If the governments take action by allocating budget for housing, public transportation, and birth control policies, citizens’ most basic needs will be ensured.
