The table illustrates the percentage of different types of poor families from Australia. Figures are presented for 1999.
Overall, 11% of entire households had less resources than they needed. Figures reveal that the most increased percentage of poverty in Australia, 21%, was in families formed by only one parent, while only 48.000 (4%) of elderly couples confronted this issue. It can be noticed that only 54 000 ( 6%) single aged people lived in poverty, closely followed by couples with no children with a percentage of 7. When it comes about the number of people, the most increased figure of those affected by scarcity is represented couples with children, even though the percentage is only 12% of the families. The second most increased number of people affected by scarcity are those who live single. 19% of them do not live in proper life sustainable conditions.
