The reading passage contends that the researchers discovered that the leg bone of a 70-million-year-old fossil of Tyrannosaurus rex have been remained blood vessels, red blood cells, and collagen matrix. On the other hand, the lecturer brings about several points that contradict this argument.
First of all, the lecturer questions the idea in the reading passage that many small branching channels are revealed in the breaking of the fossilized leg bone, which probably correspond to hollows in the bones where blood vessels were once located. This is attributed to the fact that even many channels are found in the fossilized leg bone of T. rex, that is not where blood vessels were once located. It is evidence of bacteria’s habitats. Bacteria are easy to colonize in the bone and make their habitats with hollow. And they are capable to transfer their habitats into soft substance. Thus, the reading passage’s first point is invalid.
Moreover, the lecturer casts doubt on the idea in the reading passage that the presence of sphere that could be remains of red blood cells has been revealed on microscopic examination of the various parts of inner bone. This is because according to a research of other animal, it is impossible to remain their red blood cells. And the sphere might be different substance. Consequently, the reading passage’s second point is refuted.
Last but not least, the lecturer disagrees with the idea in the reading passage that according to scientists’ test on the dinosaur leg bone, it contained collagen. It is obvious that collagen is unable to last for a long period. And it would not be from the bone of Tyrannosaurus rex, from different material such as human skins. As a result, the reading passage’s last point is contradicted.
