The table demonstrates the general information about 6 underground railway systems.

The table compares the six underground railway systems in terms of years, length and the number of passengers who use them each year. It is apparent that, the oldest railway systems have the longer distance with a capacity to carry more passengers.

The oldest underground systems have own remarkable features. The London underground railway system is the oldest system which opened in 1863 whereas Tokyo underground railway system carries the most of passengers of 1927 million per year. The second oldest railway system was in Paris of opening on 19th century but is about half of the London underground railway system with 199 km of route.

The newest systems comparatively carry fewer passengers compared to the old systems with the shorter routes. Washington DC railway system carries the most passengers of 144 million per year in terms of 126 km in length among other newest railway systems. The shortest route was 11km for Kyoto railway system (opened in 1981) and 28km for Los Angeles railway system (opened in 2001) which carries 45 million and 50 million passengers, respectively.
