The reading passage claims that humpback whales have this ability to navigate by stars and find their ways during migration. However, the lecturer casts serious doubts on this claim by presenting some counter-arguments and examples. He believes that none of these evidences are convincing.
On the first place, the lecturer contends that there is not any proof which make connection between intelligent and navigation. He provide example of one bird, the name is Duck in addition it is in average level in their general abilities though it can use stars for navigation due this is the intrinsic ability, hence there is not any tie between intelligent and navigation. This, however, is contradicted to the reading passage mentions that humpback whales seem to be clever enough to use stars to navigate by.
On the other hand, it is noted in the passage that whales due swim in a deep ocean, they could rely on stars at night to provide them with external signs by which to maintain direction over long distances. In contrast, she states that whales have some sense about earth magnetic, actually they have bio-magnetic sense in their brain which can feel magnetic field in order to orient their selves by this advance, therefore there is no evidence to show that they use stars to find their way..
Finally, the speaker points out that we can see spy-hopping ability among animals who never try to migrate and just use this advance to haunt their prey, conversely whale migrate during the day when there are not any stars in the sky. Nonetheless, the text asserts that there is one unusual function in whales is spy-hopping which they up their heads above the water to looking at the stars to navigate by information that get from them
