The article states that genetically modified trees, when planted on large mass, can produce numerous benefit and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor claims it can be problematic and expensive and refutes each of the authors justifications.
First, the passage asserts that more resistant than natural trees. The professor confutes this points by saying that it is applicable only under certain condition. She suggests that genetically modified trees are capable of resisting only certain particular kinds of condition, so if some unheralded threatening is exposed to it such as change in temperature or new kinds of bug, then they can be completely wipe out. However, natural trees have diverse gene so some of it's species can survive and continue the spreading of it.
Second, the article posits that genetically modified trees provide economic benefit. however, the professor maintains that it has hidden costs. According to professor, genetically modified plants are expensive than higher plants. Furthermore, the seeds produced by modified plants, after the farmer have grown purchased modified plants, cannot be used by farmer for cultivation in future.
Third, the passage claims that it prevents over exploitation of natural trees. The professor counter this point by explaining that it can cause deleterious effect to natural plants. We came to know that modified trees are grown along with natural trees and they can out compete natural plants for soil, water and nutrients; thus it can have adverse effect on natural plants.
