Apparently, there has been a historical debate about the reality of reaching the North pole by Robert e beary . A group of scientist support Robert in his claiming, as the author does in the reading passage, while another group cast the doubt about the honesty of this story, who represented by the professor in the lecture.
First of all, the professor contends that the national geographic committee can not be considered as a good evidence, because this committee was formed by Robert friends, also, they funded Robert journey at the beginning, in addition, they finished their record just in two days as Robert himself said, from the above, it is clear that we can not rely on this report, because it is bias and unprecise.
Second, the lecture refutes the comparison between Robert expedition and Avary, the professor thinks that Avery's journey was completeley different, as long as, every did not carry his food with him, he get his food from airplane, that mean it had less weight, also, he did his traveling in different conditions. By this point, the professor knocks down the second evidence which suggests by the author to support Robert story.
Finally, the professor critics the author evidence about the photographs that had been taken by Robert in the north pole, he adds, these photos had been taken a hundred years ago, by a primitive camera, so the technology to predict the exact position, did not precise, also, the photos colors may fade with the time.
In sum, the professor explains why he does not trust Robert story and he gives convincing explanations for each point raised by the author in the reading passage.
