The graphs compare 6 different types of position in terms of the percentage of employees in two year 1998 and 2001.
It is clear from the charts that the proportions of workers with a full time job by far were highest during the research period. Additionally, in the period of 4 years, only the figures for unemployed people and contract workers experienced rises.
In 1998, 37% of those surveyed had a full time job, while 27% of the sample were part time workers. Moreover, the proportions of self-employed and contract employees were 19% and 12% respectively. By contrast, the percentages of casual individuals and people without a job were smallest, while the former made up 3% of the sample, the latter occupied only 2%.
By 2001, the percentage of people with a full time job had fallen by 10% to 27%, in comparison with contact workers, which had risen to around 16%. In the same year, the figures for self employees and casual workers remained the same, at roughly 19% and 3% respectively. By contrast, the proportion of jobless people increased by 4% to 6%.
