The chart compares the amounts of products shipped using four means of transport in th UK druing 1974 and 2002.
It is clear that rood was by far the most popular type of transportation, while pipeline carried the smallest amount of goods. Additionally, the total quantities of products transported in England increased during the research period.
In 1974, the amount of goods shipped using road systems was highest among four types of transport, at around 70 million tonnes. The figures for water and rail were significantly lower, at merely 40 million tonnes of products each means, whereas only less than 5 million tonnes of goods used pipeline.
During 1990, the road's figure had a 10 rise to around 80 million tonnes. While the total quantity of products transported by ships increased to nearly 60 million tonnes, the number for rail declined to only 35 million tonnes. In 2002, road still was the most widely used mean of transport, at almost 100 million tonnes, compared to the lowest number in the graph of pipeline, at just over 20 million tonnes of goods.
