Essay topics:

The chart below shows the proportions of the world’s oil resources held in different areas, together with the proportions consumed annually in the same areas.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar graph illustrates the percentages of total global oil resources and yearly consumption in ten different regions.

Overall, most of oil resources come from the Middle East while the two countries from Oceania produce the least amount of oil. Furthermore, Asia and the United States are two regions which consume the largest proportion of oil.

The most prominent feature is that the Middle East takes up the lion share in oil production, accounting for more than a half of total world oil resources and quadrupling that of Canada, which is the area holding second largest quantity of oil. Conversely, Australia and New Zealand together with other parts of the world contribute the least to worldwide oil production, taking up no more than 0.3 percent and just over 1 percent respectively.

Another important point is that Asia and the United States have quite similar pattern for the significant difference between oil resources and consumption, both representing a surge in the quantity of oil being used but such little oil production of only under 2 percent. Other areas, including Central and South America, Eastern Europe and Africa, witness little difference between oil input and output, none exceeding one tenth of the total amount.
