TPO-04 - Integrated Writing Task Endotherms are animals such as modern birds and mammals that keep their body temperatures constant. For instance, humans are endotherms and maintain an internal temperature of 37°C, no matter whether the environment is wa

The reading passage supports the assumption that dinosaurs were endotherms. However, the lecture provides some facts that refutes this idea.

First, according to the reading passage, dinosaur fossils have been discovered in polar regions where only endotherms can be active. In the lecture, the professor disagrees with this opinion. She thinks the polar region was warmer than it is today and it was warm enough for a non-endotherm to live. During the cold months in Polar region, dinosaurs could migrate or habitat to accommodate the weather.

Second, the reading passage suggests that dinosaurs had legs underneath their body to keep constant physical activity like running, which is the feature of the modern endotherm. The lecture argues that the leg underneath the body rather that at the side of the body could support more weight, allowing them to grow much larger. A large size will benefit the dinosaur. Therefore, there is no need for them to run.

Third, the reading passage indicates that the unique bone structure call Haversian canals allow dinosaurs to grow rapidly. In the lecture, the professor brings up a new structure on called growth ring restricting the speed of the constant growth of dinosaurs. The professor says dinosaurs grew in a periodical way that is grow rapidly first and then the process slow down or stop and then grow rapidly again. This isn't a feature of endotherms who keep growing rapidly.
