The graph below shows the amount of money spent on books in Germany, France, Italy and Austria between 1995 and 2005.

The line graph illustrates the spending on books of four countries namely Germany, France, Italia and Austria from 1995 to 2005.
Overall, as can be seen, all countries saw a slight fluctuation in expenditure on books over the period. Another visible trend is that Germany spent the highest percentage of their income on books.
Looking at the detail, the proportion of spending on books in Germany was under $80 million in 1995. The figures for France, Italia and Austria were lower, at about $55 million, $50 million and $30 million respectively. Despite some fluctuations, the amount of money spent on books in Germany continued to be higher than in the other countries, and spending reached a peak of around $95 million in 2005.
The expenditure on books in Austria increased dramatically from approximately $40 million in the year 2001 to over $70 million in 2005. In France, there was a gradual growth during the 10 years, reaching the final figure of almost $75 million in 2005. About $60 million of Italia’s spending on books in 2005, compared to under $50 million in the year 1999.
