The reading specifies that there are three advantagous in using electronic data instead of paper data. The professor, however, explains that this benefits are uncertain and dobious and provide some evidence to refute them all.
First, electronic medical records do not need many space and it can be transfer when the doctors need it easily. Hence, it help to save money because there is no need of paying money for storage. Conversely, the lecturer opposes this point by saying that the doctors who use electronic record do not throw out their paper records and they use it in emergency times. Therefore, they must pay for storage which not help them to save money.
Second, the author states that the electronic medical records are essential to decreasing the chances of medial fatals. Legible handwriting, improper transcription of data and nonstandard organization of paper are example of errors which it is plausible to have serious consequences for patients health. In contrast, the professor explains that doctors use pen and paper for writing the situation of patient and it is possible that the staff who write it on computer make mistakes because of the poor handwriting.
Third, the passage asserts that large amount of paper cannot be used but with the existence of electronic medical records, doctors can easily have access to the needed information by searching the information. Nevertheless, the talker contradicts this point by reasoning that using the information of patient are an arduous task and this information is private and doctors must ask permission form government and the person before using it and also the patient at any moment can block the use for any bod except himself.
