As can be seen from the graph, the figures of both nations’ birth rates saw a considerable fluctuation from 1200 to 1950, whereas the number fell steadily in the latter half of the century
In 1290, China’s birth rate was about 10. Then apart from a slight rise to 15 in 1935, the fertility of the nation declined considerably to 5 in the period ò 1940 and 1945. The following 5 years was a significant increase to 20, followed by a period ò gradual decrease in the next 50 years.
Meanwhile, there was a slight fluctuation in US birth rates over the period ò 1920 and 1940, before it plunged to a low at just below 5 in 1945. Then the figures reached a peak at about 15 in 1950, after experiencing a sharply fell in the next 50 year timescale.
