Democracy is the envy to every nation to ensure fair and justice for all people within that country. So does that mean the well-being of a society - the satisfactory state of people within this society, which involves being happy, safe, healthy and having enough money - is enhanced when many of its people question authority? In my opinion, it is a big yes for most of the cases, but a small no in some exceptions.
When opinion of people within a society is listened and addressed properly, public's faith to government, which is extremely essential for a government to perform their function effectively, will surely increases. Let say, if the government want to increase tax in some luxury items, it first needs the corporation from its people, which only achieved when people believe that what government is doing good for their benefits, for example authority would have more fund for bare necessities subsidy scheme or purpose of balancing add stabilizing the economy.
In the democracy society in which people are able to speak out their questions to authority without being afraid of retribution, impurity as well as the governmental vices such as corruption, misuse of power or policies that go against majority of residents is less likely to happen because bad guys are afraid of public voice. For instance, whenever a vice happen, there would be many people who question authority and under public pressure, the authority would have no choice but address the problem in a reasonable manner.
However, when the people rise the question centering sensitive issue such as religions, racist, etc. in inappropriate time or the authority lacks ability to handle many questions properly, such questions with unsatisfied answers can lead national well-being to worse not better - It may promote protests, demonstrations, nation division which in turn retrains authority to perform their role effectively. For example, new government of Pakistan have had extremely difficulties during implementing any of policies to tackle long-standing problem of this nation because there is always questioning and opposition from different groups who are unwilling to compromise.
In conclusion, In general well-being of a society can be enhanced when many of its people question authority because this practice helps to build public's faith to government and limit impurity and social vices. However, it depends on authority ability to handle the question and the type of questions in a particular time, the well-being of a society may be worsen when many of its people question authority.
