The position of women has changed a great deal in many societies over the past 50 years. But these societies can not claim to have achieved gender equality.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
In many parts of the world, there is now greater equality for women compared to those in the past. There are some who argue that these societies have obtained gender equality. However, in my view, it is too soon to have any assertion and this problem should be reconsidered carefully.
It is true that, in the modern times, the increase in women's success in terms of education, business and politics has become more impressive. For example, there are now more women entrepreneurs appear in the media than ever before. At the same time, many women attained many high positions in government or even reached the highest political power of a country, such as the president of Thailand and Philippines. However, the success of these women is more likely to be exception rather than rule. In fact, the proportion of women occupying important positions in both private and government-related organizations still far lower than that of men.
What is more, it is evident that women have been at advantaged in most areas they involved in. Take for example workplace, in which women still enjoy fewer promotions and earn less for the same equivalent work.
Furthermore, Women nowadays still have to take responsibility of many different type of house-related things compared to men. Child rearing and household, for instance, continue to be taken mainly by females. As a result, it creates a burden for women when it comes to working and growing
Overall, In my view, no one can deny that nowadays women receive more advantages than those in the past; nevertheless, they are actually far from thing called true gender equality.
