The bar charts illustrate the destinations of UK students who finished their degrees and postgraduate studies in 2008 that are not currently engaged in full-time employment.
It is obvious that the number of graduate students far exceeds the number of postgraduate students, but the distribution of choices is quite similar with little differences. Notably, the most popular destination for both groups is to pursue further education, but looking at the second chart, one can see that taking a part-time job is also a popular choice among postgraduate students, behind only by a small margin of less than 200 students from the top choice.
Among graduate students, most either end up employed as part-time workers or unable to find a job. The former exceeds the latter by just over a thousand students. In contrast, only about a fifth of postgraduate students ends up unemployed. There are only a small proportion of students, both graduates and postgraduates, who is engaged in voluntary work.
In summary, apart from doing a full-time job, the top destination for graduate and postgraduate students after graduation is to seek further education, followed by part-time work. A great proportion ends up unemployed while a small fraction does voluntary work.
