Given is the bar chart which illustrates the number of rentals and sales yearly in different formats of film in a particular store from 2002 to 2011.
Overall, the popularity of movie rental and VHS sales had continuously decreased, whereas the number of DVD sales had dramatically risen and became at the top position finally.
Firstly, staring at 180,000 rentals in 2002, the number of film rentals gradually dropped by 20,000 in 2004 and by 40,000 in 2006. Subsequently, there was a gradual decrease throughout this period as the rental figure declined to 90,000 in 2009 and ended at just above 50,000 in 2011. Unlike the rental figure, the DVD had the reverse trend. Beginning only 60,000 sales, the DVD sales figure increased rapidly to 175,000 in 2004 and it still rockets to the peak at 215,000 sales. Consequently, there was a small reduction as the total sales of DVD had fallen by 35,000 from 2007 to 2011.
Another point is that the VHS figure represented a dramatic change as in 2002 it was 90,000 sales, decreased to only 10,000 sales in 2005, but then the figure disappeared in 2006. Whereas, in 2007, there was the fist existence of Blu-ray sales figure, starting at 1,000 sales. The number of Blu-ray sales continued to rise over 10,000 in 2011.
